Pakistani troops opened fire on an Indian border post located in north Kashmir. This unprovoked attack that started on Tuesday night is the first violation of the ceasefire in five years since December 2003. No casualties have been reported on this Indian side.
It has been reported that the Pakistani troops targeted the Indian post in the Tangdhar area. Heavy machine guns and heavy mortars have been used in this attack. The Army has proposed a meeting with its Pakistani counterparts to discuss the situation. The Pakistani side has however denied this action

There were minor firing incidents in the past that could be attributed to militants but this is the first time in five years that an attack of this proportion has been carried out. Some of the machine gun fire even hit the Indian bunkers, the mortar shells however missed the mark. Indian troops continued to adhere to the ceasefire and did not retaliate.

Indian external affairs minister Pranab Mukherjee and his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi are scheduled to meet on May 21, to continue the composite dialogue process in Islamabad.

The claim from the Indian side has been denied by Pakistan in a statement released, their statement says ''Indian military authorities have been informed that no incident of firing from (the Pakistani) side of the LoC took place as claimed.''

Most of the Pakistani media and news agencies waded off this news item. On the contrary this item has been extensively covered by major Indian Newspapers and Print media.
