Veteran CPM leader Jyothi Basu advised speaker Mr Somnath Chaterjee to toe the party line and resign the post of speaker next week.  He was advised to vote against the government. Mr Chaterjee feels that as a speaker of the House he does not belong to any party and need not resign. There seems to be a rift in the left parties as the West Bengal
sports minister says that Mr Chaterjee need not resign, while the party feels that he should resign.
At least 15 people were injured in the clashes between the Kashmiri separatists and the workers of both PDP and National Conference parties. The political parties celebrated

 

a Martyrs day on Sunday .When Ms Mehabooba the PDP leader arrived at the graveyard to pay tributes she was Jeered and forced to retreat. The same fate awaited Mr Omar Abdullah when his meeting was disrupted and stones were pelted. Some of the National Conference workers were beaten up.
It now appears that the Talwar couple would not get their jobs back in the Fortis hospital at NOIDA, though the CBI has cleared them of charges of killing their daughter Arushi. The Talwar couple were visiting dentists at the Fortis hospital.
The IIMs have increased the application money for CAT exam by Rs 200. The application fee which is a very good income for IIMs now costs Rs 1300. The Cat exam would be conducted in Nov'08.Meanwhile it appears that this year also the exam will be in the paper and pencil mode and not a computer test as planned earlier.
There were protests in some parts of Andhra Pradesh against the daily Newspaper SAKSHI for publishing a photograph of Jesus Christ with a cigarette in one hand and a beer can in the other. Police claim that the situation is under control.
Mr Mukesh Ambani the chairman of Reliance group met with the Prime Minister today in connection with the windfall Tax suggested by the Samajwadi Party. Mr Ambani is against the tax and explained to the PM the ill effects of the tax on the industry
