News Critique
In this section we will analyze several newspapers on the newsworthiness of the content they published.
Today there were several important news items to cover, however  a prominent news channel has a headline about an employee killing himself and his wife. This news item was on top of their front page.
Another prominent news website posted an interview with Medha Patkar on top of their page. This article was not covered by any any other news agency. The exclusive nature of a news content holds importance when a news agency is the first one to break an important news and other news channels try to report it due to its sheer importance. But if a news agency covers an article and no other agency bothers to look at it, it is a sign of news item being cooked up to fill the pages. The article about Medha Patkar falls into that category.
Ironically the news agency that covered Medha's interview also covered the news item where a Techie killed his wife and himself but did not cover the death of 8 people due to unseasonale rain in Andhra and Kerala. Of course death of 8 people due to rain is not as sensational as a man killing his wife and himself.
