Indian Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon arrived at Beijing on Sunday to attend a meeting of G-8 "outreach countries". Menon said that India is open to hosting a nuclear fuel bank, which will provide access to enriched nuclear fuel to nations. This is aimed at providing nuclear energy to a number of countries and at the same preventing access to the critical enrichment technology |

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on asked Rahul to stop his ‘political drama’. She also threatened that such actions can lead to BSP withdrawing its support from UPA. |

Forty-four people, mostly young girls (about thirty two) were killed on their way to school, when the bus carrying them fell into the Narmada canal. Both the driver and the conductor of the bus are reported to be dead. The canal was 60 foot deep and only four children were able to be rescued from the accident. |

Mr Arun Jaitley who is currently BJP general secretary in charge of the Karnataka Assembly elections released the first list of 136 names of for the candidates who will be contesting the upcoming Karnataka Assembly elections. The state of Karnataka is divided into 223 constituencies of Legislative assembly, so the 136 names released by BJP represent more than 50 percent of the total seats for grabs in the next election. BJP had 79 seats in the dissolved Karnataka Assembly and was the single largest party. |

In a landmark decision, the supreme court upheld the decision of implementing 27% quota for OBCs in in government-run institutes of higher learning. The supreme court however stated that the creamy layer should be left out of it. The bench, also sought a review once in every five years of see of this law is making the improvements in the society that it was intended to make. The final list of admissions to the Indian Institutes of Management (IIM), will be dealyed by about a week because of this judgement. These lists were supposed to be released this Friday. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati welcomed the Supreme Court verdict. |
