The first phase of polling was complete in Kashmir. About fifty five percent of people voted in the first phase. The biggest accomplishment for the security forces is the fact that the elections were held without any violence. Several separatist leaders were held under house arrest during the time of election as a preemptive measure to retain calm.

History repeats itself but in weird ways. Nearly a decade back when the BJP lead government in India went ahead with the nuclear testing, the Pakistani government was quick to respond and within a couple of weeks they had their own Nuclear testing to prove that they are in no way inferior. Just hours after US president George Bush signed a Nuclear agreement Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari is making a trip to China and there have been indications that Pakistan was seeking a Nuclear agreement with China.

There have been reports of tense situations between Hindus and Christians after violence in the little known Kandhamal district became a National News. Many reporters were quick to jump in and so were the politicians starting the blame games. There however are a bunch of unsolved mysteries and unanswered questions that are emerging as the days pass by. |

US President George Bush signed into law on a bill that allows civilian nuclear trade as well as transfer of nuclear technology to India. This bill had been approved by the US Congress. US Vice-President Dick Cheney, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman, and India’s ambassador to Washington Ronen Sen attended the signing ceremony.

News Analysis: There has been a nationwide ban on public smoking. A step that is brought forward in order to curb the second hand smoke among the non smokers. This step will most likely not succeed since the definition of public place is very hazy in India. |
