The allotment of 40 hectares of land has resulted in havoc in the sate of J&K, and the worst part is that no one saw it coming. An all party meeting had been convened in Srinagar.

The all part meeting was chaired by Home Minister Shivraj Patil and was attended by several top leaders like Arun Jaitley, Amar Singh, Farooq Abdullah, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Mehbooba Mufti and along with several local leaders. 40 hectares or less than 100 acres or about 0.4 square kilometers is not a very big chunk of land, however the issue became volatile when the allotment took a communal turn. The state was paralyzed and the violence took ten lives and leaving several others injured. The situation is in a standstill with both parties not ready to bulge from their respective positions. Shri Amarnath Sangharsh Samithi (SASS) has been spearheading the protests in favour of the land transfer while several separatist leaders are against it.
