The 12-day old newly formed BJP government in Karnataka is facing the heat as one framer was killed and two others injured in a police firing. The incident happened in Haveri. The incident began when the farmers were protesting the shortage of fertilizers.

Chief Minister Yeddyurappa blamed the Center and stated that Karnataka received only 23,000 tonnes of fertilizer instead of the 120000 tonnes that the Centre was supposed to provide. In order to solve the crisis Mr Yeddyurappa will be meeting Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and fertilizer minister Mr Ramvilas Paswan. Karnataka government offered two lakh rupees to the family of the 35 year old farmer who died in the incident amd  offered Rs 50,000 each to those who were injured in the incident

 

The incident first started when the farmers started protesting were not able to procure fertilizers. The protest grew violent and buses were also burnt in this incident. The police had to resort to firing in order to stop the violent crowd resulting in the death of one farmer. Violence erupted again during the funeral. Chief Minster appealed to the farmers to be calm.
