Amnesty International, the organization that overlooks the Global human rights has its report for the year 2008. In this report India was slammed for its poor record in several areas. The report pointed out that around 300 million people still remained in poverty. A lot of “Advasis” were living in backwardness were displaced from resource-rich areas, to other areas for the sake of industrialization.
The report also listed out the atrocities committed by the local government in a place called “Nandigram” where human rights violations like unlawful killings, forced evictions, excessive police force, and violence against women were committed. Even the media and human rights organization were denied access and information. According to Indian laws such information should be provided. The controversial state of Jammu and Kashmir also figured in this report. The report states that cases of torture, deaths in custody, abductions and unlawful killings are prevalent. Disappearance of people is also very common in this region.
