BJP bounced back in Karnataka by winning 110 seats out of the total of 224. Here are the final election results. | Information Available | 224/224 | | Lead | 0 | | Result | 224 | | Party | Won | Lead | Total | | Bharatiya Janata Party | 110 | 0 | 110 | | Indian National Congress | 80 | 0 | 80 | | Janata Dal (Secular) | 28 | 0 | 28 | | Bahujan Samaj Party | 0 | 0 | 0 | | Janata Dal (United) | 0 | 0 | 0 | | Samajwadi Party | 0 | 0 | 0 | | Kannada Chalavali Vatal Paksha | 0 | 0 | 0 | | Independents | 6 | 0 | 6 | | Total | 224 | 0 | 224 |
Table Curtesy- Election Commission of India BJP was three votes short of Majority but as you can see that there are six independents who might be willing to support a BJP lead government. Parties like BSP, Samajwadi Party, and Janta Dal (united) failed to make any inroads in these elections.
In the official press statement BJP called this year as an "Year of Change". BJP thanked the people of Karnataka for giving a mandate to BJP. The central leadership congratulated the state unit of the BJP and Shri B.S. Yedyurappa. L.K Advani said "This is a verdict against the Congress party’s politics of opportunism and the JD(S)’s politics of betrayal". |
