Nuclear capable Prithvi-2 test fired successfully |

Chandipur: India successfully test fired Nuclear-capable Prithvi II missile. This missile now has a range of 350km compared to earlier 250 Km range and this missile can haul a payload of one tonne. Prithvi-2 is a surface to surface ballistic missile, the current version of which has a 250Km range is already being used by the Indian Army.
The successful test firing was performed at a test range located in Chandipur (Orissa). The total flight duration of 483 seconds reaching a peak altitude of 43.5 kms. All the measurements and calculations were exactly what the scientists have been expecting. This is another major achievement for DRDO (Defense Research and Development Organisation) which completed its fifty years in 2008. According to the press release “Top Army Officials and Top DRDO Scientists witnessed the launch. Dr V.K. Saraswat, Chief Controller R & D oversaw all the operations of the missile launch. Shri SP Dash, Director, ITR, Shri DS Reddy, Project Director and other scientists led the team of Scientists. The Defence Minister Shri AK Antony congratulated all the scientists of DRDO on the successful launch of Prithvi-II. Shri M Natarajan, Scientific Advisor to Raksha Mantri has also congratulated the scientists and wished them many more glorious achievements." |
