Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) performed poorly in the west bengal Panchayat elections. CPI-M lost the Panchayat elections in several districts, including Nandigram and Singur. Trinamool Congress on did well in the Nandigram and Singur areas.

This performance of Trinmool has been one of its best performance ever. In spite of the poor performance of CPI-M the left coalition secured more seats than other parties. Trinamool Congress, which started the agitation in Nandigram, saw its efforts pay off in that area.
The panchayat elections in West Bengal were be held on May 11, 14 and 18. The left parties won 13 of the state’s 17 districts which is a poor performance compared to last election. The Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool, had failed to win even any zilla parishad seats last election but it came back strong this year.
