Kolkata: The results of the West Bengal Higher Secondary examination of this year were published today in record forty days' time. Setting another record, the examination registered a pass percentage of 80.38, which is 6.61 per cent more than last year. The district schools surpassed the city schools in the examination, which was based on a revised syllabus. Also, boys outdid girls in the Higher Secondary examination. Over 4 lakh candidates had appeared in the examination, which began in the state on March 11 and continued till April 9 this year. The pass percentage of boys is 81.23, which is 5.27 per cent more than last year, whereas that of girls is 79.24, which is 5.32 per cent more than last year. Kumud Bandopadhyay of Garh Raipur High School in Bankura district topped this year's examination with a total score of 475 out of 500. Kaustav Roy of Balurghat High School stood second with a score of 459, and Bijit Singha of Bankura Zilla School stood third, securing a total of 468 marks.
