India and Pakistan resumed their Composite Dialogue Process and discussed a number of issues. The topic that was on top of India’s agenda was the recent ceasefire violations. Pakistan on the other hand expressed sincerity and gave assurance that it is committed to maintaining the cease fire along the Line of Control.

Yesterday a soldier from the Gorkha Rifles was killed in grenade firing at the Line of Control in Poonch district on Monday morning. There have been multiple incidents since May 8. The Pakistani side initially rejected the claims of any cross border firing but later they agreed to investigate after the Indian Army provided them with visual evidence showing Pakistan violating the cease fire. India Pakistani dialogue included this incident as one of the important issues. India expressed its concern over these firings across the Line of Control.
Both India and Pakistan agreed that Terrorism is a huge issue facing both the countries and combating terrorism is very important. Indian external affairs minister Pranab Mukharjee expressed confidence that the new democratically elected government would bring peace in the subcontinent.
There have been some speculations about the peace process as there has been some political instability in Pakistan’s newly elected government.  Cracks started becoming visible after Nawaz Sharif quit the coalition government. Pranab Mukharjee is scheduled to meet with Nawaz Sharif later this week.
