BJP today managed to hold on to Gopinath Munde as a BJP member and convinced him to withdraw his resignation. BJP central leadership sacked Madhu Chavan as Mumbai unit chief. It is believed that L K Advani's played a big role in this episode. In the mixed message to Munde, BJP leader Gopal Shetty was picked as the compromise candidate.

Munde and BJP reached an agreement and the party convinced him to stay in the party. BJP however rejected Munde's request for picking the next BJP Mumbai head and refused to sack state BJP chief Nitin Gadkari. The good news for Munde came when, the party announced that in the forthcoming assembly elections, he will lead the the state.

After quitting Munde met Shiv Sena leader Bal Thackeray and discussed about the reasons for his resignation. It is said that Munde also visited PWP and NCP members. He however claims that there were no political intentions
