Arun Gawli (55) the MLA from Chinchpokli, was arrested for his alleged involvement in a Rs 25-lakh extortion case. The Crime Branch team raided Gawli’s residence and recovered a number of documents about various housing projects going on around the city. He was arrested following a statement given to police by Vijay Ahir. Gawli will remain in police custody till May 2.

The police first arrested Vijay after a builder complained of extortion and them apparently Vijay named Gawli’s name. The biggest clue to the Police have been the documents from Vijay Ahir’s house which show plans of several development projects in Mumbai and a lot of disputed properties. Police believe that all this information could not have been amassed by Vijay without the blessings of Arun Gawli.
Vijay Ahir, who is Arun Gawli’s cousin has a criminal background with two cases of kidnapping and attempt to dacoity registered against him. Arun Gawli the gangster turned politician is commonly known as ‘Daddy’ is the head of a political party called Akhil Bharatiya Sena
