Indian Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon arrived at Beijing on Sunday to attend a meeting of G-8 "outreach countries". Menon said that India is open to hosting a nuclear fuel bank, which will provide access to enriched nuclear fuel to nations. This is aimed at providing nuclear energy to a number of countries and at the same preventing access to the critical enrichment technology
Menon was positive about the India-US deal. He said “We hope civil nuclear cooperation with the US and other countries will become possible soon. We hope to bring it to fruition soon” While delivering the keynote address he mentioned "We run a full nuclear fuel cycle of our own and we would be happy to participate in providing a home for a nuclear fuel bank,". International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) plans to set up an international uranium enrichment facility, where countries can source their nuclear fuel requirements to run atomic power plants. During this meeting he answered a number of questions ranging from Iran to the Global climate issue |
